Some days can be mega overwhelming. There are too many tasks to complete, you can’t focus clearly, are not confident in your decision making skills or emotions are just weighing extra heavy today.
When you feel like this, the best thing to do is to set aside a bit of time for yourself, even if it’s just a few minutes. I know this itself can be difficult especially if you feel you don’t have enough time in the day, but this is one of the best things you can do for your body in this overwhelming state. Grab your journal (or even just a sticky note or an old receipt crumpled up at the bottom your purse!) and write it out.
Journaling provides an opportunity for emotional catharsis that helps the brain regulate emotions. This in turn can decrease stress and help you think more clearly when under anxious/overwhelming circumstances.
Journal prompts: for days when you feel overwhelmed:
- My intention today is to:
- What is truly worth focusing my energy on?
- What isn’t worth focusing my energy on?
- How can I make these heavy emotions feel lighter?
If you have the opportunity and space to do so, sit down comfortably in a quite space and take a few minutes to do some of your favourite stretches. We often hold stress in out shoulders and even holding a gentle childs pose for a few minutes can help to relieve stress and tension.
